CHOSEN INGREDIENTS

Sourced from Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, every ingredient is well researched, thoughtfully and responsibly selected to have maximum proven benefits for your skin as well as positive impact on the local communities we source from.

Wild grown, in pure, clean air and hydrated from the Nile River, Shea Nilotica is organic and grows in an environment untouched and undefiled by industrial pollution or commercial agriculture. Traditionally cold-pressed to preserve the nutritional profile, Nilotica is harvested by women who live in the villages once a year. Nilotica is a rare type of shea harvested from wild grown shea trees in the Nile River Valley, exclusively in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan, the only two Nilotica regions worldwide. It’s different and far superior from the more common West African shea butter you may have come across. Nilotica has been loved and traditionally used for skincare and cooking in East Africa for Millenia.

BENEFITS
  • Moisturizing and Hydrating: The unique fatty acid profile rich in Linoleic, Stearic, Palmitic, Oleic and Arachidic acids results in fast absorption and deep penetration, delivering moisture and natural fats to the deepest and driest parts of your skin. Nilotica’s humectant and emollient properties allow it to draw moisture from the air into the skin and lock it in by forming a protective barrier.
  • Anti-Aging: High antioxidant content (vitamin A,E,K,F), protects skin from free radicals and premature aging.
  • Anti-Inflammatory: Soothing and conditioning properties make it healing and ideal for sensitive and all skin types.
  • Proven UV Blocker: Shea has a natural SPF of 7. While you might not use it as your sole sunscreen, it offers a gentle protective barrier allowing for a healthy dose of sun exposure and works really well blended with your favorite toxin free sunscreen for that extra moisture boost and glow.
  • Plumps and Boosts Elasticity: Contains natural compounds known as triterpenes, which stop the breakdown of collagen fibers.
  • Supports Healing and Tissue Repair: Shea has long been used in Africa for its healing properties and is a very soothing addition for irritated, sunburned skin and even burns and wounds.
  • Light, Sweet and Earthy Aroma: Simply put, you are going to smell like an amazing earth goddess!

ANTI AGING MIRACLE OIL

Long-valued in non-western cultures, Moringa is known as “miracle” tree for good reason. The seeds yield an oil that is highly rich in fatty acids and anti-oxidants, it can be used as an all-in-one skin elixir, achieving the enhancing benefits of all your skin care products in one. A 2014 study found that using Moringa leaf extract on the face supported anti-aging, among other benefits.

BENEFITS

  • Hydrates and Moisturizes Skin: Being 40 percent monounsaturated fatty acids, with 70 percent of that being oleic acid, Moringa oil is great for supporting the skin barrier, drawing and sealing in hydration while protecting it from environmental damage.
  • Anti-Aging: Moringa oil is effective at plumping fine lines and wrinkles, and contributing to an overall more youthful appearance thanks to its rich fatty acid and anti-oxidant profile.
  • Balances Natural Oils: Moringa oil is similar to the sebum naturally produced by our skin, which means that it can help to balance and nourish all skin types without being greasy.
  • Anti-Inflammatory and Antimicrobial: Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties because of its high content of vitamin E, it also has potent antioxidant properties. The anti-inflammatory properties may also help contribute to clearer skin, counteracting breakouts.
  • Therapeutic: Moringa is often used in aromatherapy products as a carrier oil due to its long shelf life.
  • High Levels of Vitamins and Antitoxidants (A,C, E) makes it Anti-inflammatory, maintains immune system, cell function and skin health. The high vitamin A content Builds collagen by increasing blood flow to skin while Vitamin C and Phenols act as powerful Anti-oxidants, reduce fine lines, protects from free radicals
  • Contains Cytokinins: Zeatin (potent plant growth hormone found in Moringa oil). Promotes cellular growth, delays aging by supporting and nourishing the cell tissues

SKIN FOOD, NOT IN A CUP

Coffee oil contains fatty acids like linoleic and palmitic acids which have proven to increase the production of collagen and elastin, proteins that are important for smoothing wrinkles and preserving the firmness and elasticity of the skin. The oil also directly combats UV damage to improve the strength, resilience and elasticity of the facial skin.

Skin cells treated with coffee oil have the ability to halt moisture loss and improve skin hydration. The proteins in the oil act as a sponge to trap water molecules then transport them to the upper layer of the skin. It  also has the ability to protect against photo-aging through increased apoptosis (programmed cell death) of UVB damaged keratinocytes which remove damaged skin cells before they cause photo aging and skin cancer.

Coffee oil contains a high concentration of Chlorogenic acid which reduces redness associated with excessive sunlight exposure and the caffeine limits photo damage , decreases skin roughness and wrinkle formation and reduces the appearance of crow’s feet. The caffeine, high levels of anti-oxidants and abundance of fatty acids in cold-pressed coffee oil make it ideal for cell regeneration, improving blood flow, plumping, hydrating and firming skin.

It also features Ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps to smooth the skin.

Like Shea Butter, Cocoa butter is rich in saturated fats like oleic, palmitic, and stearic which moisturize the skin, repair the skin barrier and prevent pre-mature aging. Cocoa butter, however, does not contain arachidic and linoleic acids which Shea butter does. Its higher melting point makes it more stable in higher temperatures and a great addition to our blended balms to maintain a good consistency.

The seed is grown by organic farmers in Bundibugyo District, Western Uganda.

  • Packed with fatty acids
  • Anti-oxidant powerhouse

Tustanovskyis Family Cropped Round

OUR STORY

I grew up in Uganda surrounded by year-round sunshine and among many amazing things, an abundance of some of the best natural skincare in its raw, unrefined form. My mom first introduced me to Shea Nilotica butter as a teenager, telling me all about its amazing nourishing and healing properties. That began my journey into mixing up my own face, body and haircare butters and creams. GoodSkinFood is our family’s dream of sharing these with more people coming to fruition.
